How to choose the best ATV rental for your adventure Part II

In the first post regarding choosing your ATV rental I went over experience and how it was a factor in choosing the best atv for you rental.  I could not help but be bothered about other factors to include and it nagged me all day thus the late night post.

Height and weight is a very big factor especially with children a while back there was a law that banned kid’s quad’s and the reason for the ban was because the battery had lead and so did the tire valve. They have then since came up with a solution for that and allowed kid’s quads to be manufactured but the main concern was that small kids could end up using the wrong equipment and have a serious accident. One very important factor other than height and weight of the rider is where are you riding?

Just like any products, they vary in specific purpose and style. The accessories on the quad make it easier for some terrain more than others. Let’s take for example the Honda 250EX this, ATV has the least power and weaker than, a Honda 450R.  The 250ex is more for trail riding than for dune riding. It can go in the dunes but it struggles especially because our 250 rentals do not come with paddle tires. The 250ex has a harder time in the sand dunes and putting a paddle tire on it will just make it harder on the motor and it will overheat.  Trail riding usually consists of hard packed trails throughout the Yuma Desert and easier to handle for the 250 motor. A Honda 250Recon has racks and has softer suspension making it the perfect trail riding quad especially since you can easily place a ice chest on the rack and go!.  The Honda 450R has an R for Racer. It is one of the fastest ATVs with more power to handle the ever so changing Imperial Sand Dunes. This quad does require a the use of a clutch and because of it’s strong power can easily just glide in the dunes. However the Honda 450R does come close to the power of a Honda 700xx, this ATV is a beast.  The 700xx has the ability to go in reverse when the 450R doesn’t and also requires the use of a clutch. The Honda 700xx is also heavier so getting stuck in the dunes is not really a good idea.

Honda 250 Ex great for trail riding and light dune riding

Honda 250 Recon great for trail rides not dunes

Honda 450R a bit more power for the trail rides and great at the sand dunes

Honda 700xx a bit too much for trail rides and excellent for the dunes (although some said they prefer the 450r vs the 700xx)

Hope this helps, if there is a better way to help choose your rental please comment.

Thank you for letting me know that the height and weight of the UTV must be considered, especially when riding with children. My friend is going on a vacation with his family. He is even looking for a UTV rental near our place since he will be using it for their road trip.
